Politics and Whatnot…

Is This Billboard Racist?

with 3 comments

Here’s a billboard located on Highway 63 outside West Palins, Missouri depicting a caricature of Barack Obama in a turban and highlighting his middle name. The sign reads, “Barack ‘Hussein’ Obama equals more abortions, same sex marriages, taxes, gun regulations.”

Is it “racist” as some are saying?

  1. I don’t think it’s racist but it plays on the fears of the narrow minded and ignorant.

keep ’em in fear and they’ll do whatever you want!

  2. let me add that while it’s not racist it’s clearly xenophobic.

people in OTHER COUNTRIES wear turbans – not Americans.

people in OTHER COUNTRIES have the name Hussein – not Americans.

and the name Hussein in quotation marks… Hahahaa man one has to be really ignorant to not see what is implied by that billboard.

“He’s not American! He’s going to change our American values!”

  3. Of course it’s racist! What white political candidate has ever been depicted in a turban? People in this country have come from other countries. There are people in this country named Hussein, Jesus, Adolph, and etc. It is more than just John, Peter, Debbie, and etc. What would happen if John McCain was depicted in an Adolph Hitler motif with a little Charlie Chaplin mustache and in a Nazi Germany uniform complete with swastikas? I wonder how many people would find John “The Nazi” McCain just an innocent prank?
